I initially wanted to include Les Miserables and Django in this list; but I have decided that this should only include the top ten movies I want to watch next year, 2013. I’m hoping writing about it would help me remember (I have bad memory, whut?!) lol. Anyway, in no particular order (other than I searched and found them first), my movies to watch include:
1. Much Ado About Nothing
The reason for me wanting to watch the movie is pretty obvious. I love most things with Joss Whedon. I loved him since Buffy, all the way to The Avengers movie. With the exception of Dollhouse, I have pretty much watched everything he’s been associated with. Having Nathan Fillion (Capt. Malcolm of Firefly and Serenity), and Alexis Desinof (Wesley of Buffy and Angel) helped a lot. More specifically Fillion, actually.
From what I understand, it’s a modern-day, black and white (to give it a film noir feel) Shakespeare play with the men as classy mobsters. They’re going the way of Romeo & Juliet (the one with Leonado diCaprio and Claire Danes), who talked Shakespearean the whole time.
So far, it’s been slated to be out by June 7, 2013. Keeping my fingers crossed!
2. In spite of its’ really bad name, Gangster Squad looks very interesting. Starring Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, and Emma Stone, the trailer looked really good. It’s based on a real-time mob boss, Mickey Cohen. According to their website:
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and—if he has his way—every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart.
After watching Boardwalk Empire, and seeing the likes of Rothstein, Capone and Nucky; I have developed a love for mobster-related shows. Having Emma Stone in the movie doesn’t hurt either. After Easy Aand Zombieland, I have developed lesbian-love for Stone. Her voice is just so husky-awesome! I don’t mind sitting through any of her movies.
Movie is set to show on January 13, 2013; so this would probably be the first movie we’ll see after the new year.
3. World War Z
I read the book, so I have high expectations for this movie. But it seems like the internet is ganging up on lowering any expectations that this movie may be as good as the book.
First and most important of all, they changed the plot. While the book was more of a series of interviews by Gerry Lane, a U.N. employee asking about how the apocalypse began, how humans dealt with it, and how the survivors are dealing with it; the movie seemed to be more about Brad Pitt as Lane, still a U.N. employee, and preventing the apocalypse from happening.
Second, they have fast-moving zombies. I don’t like fast-moving zombies. I’m a traditionalist. I like my zombies slow and lumbering, with no deductive reasoning skills. Yes, fast zombies are scarier; but it doesn’t make sense! Zombies are supposed to have a non-functioning frontal cortex. They basically function at a primitive level, whose only concern is to eat. They are also actively decaying, and can’t possibly be moving too fast either. Anyway, I digress.
It looks like the movie is supposed to be out by summer of 2013.
